Changes made and overall evaluation

Throughout the project we realised that we did need to make some changes in order to make the video work. Some of the shots in the story board have had to change and extra footage added between scenes as when we lined up the voices and lip syncing we found gap where we didn't really take into account the instrumental parts in the music. This is the only changes we really made and we did that to make the video work and make it look the best we could with what we had.
From the various audience feedback we gained we had a lot of comments about the camera work and also the lip syncing, if we had time to reproduce i would off taken more time doing practice shots of miscellaneous video before hand just so we could be more aware of the camera and how to use it this would overall improve on the 'jumpy' zooming.

How did you use new technologies in the construction and research; planning and evaluation stage?

I used a number of different  new technologies in creating my coursework.
Internet sites;

We used Blogger to present all of our work. I preferred this as it meant we could access it anywhere with my smart phone. Also it meant that i wouldn't have multiple pieces of paper to misplace. This is a screen shot of my blogging dash board and blog its self.

Facebook:

I used Facebook to  retain some audience feedback for my final product. I found this useful as its a quick and easy tool that many people use and connect with daily.

Youtube:

I used Youtube as a way to show others my video. It created a quick and easy link that they could get to anytime. It also helped me as i had trouble uploading my video straight onto the blog, through using youtube i could solve the problem and post in an alternative way.

Hard Ware:

This is a Sony A1e Camcorder we used this camera to record the footage. It was the first time we had used the camera. It was relatively easy to use and we picked up the basics easily as we got used the camera we were getting better shots. However we could of improved on our zoom as it jolts.

This is a Nikon D70 SLR a professional camera however the difference between the 2 cameras is that this particular one is used for still images. We used this camera to do the photo shoot to get the  main images we used for our ancillary products. As I studied Photography at college I already knew how to use the camera and how i could use it to get the best possible image for example i shot in 'vivid' so the colours would "pop" out as it was quite a dim day.

Soft Ware:

We used Photoshop CS5 to create both of our ancillary products and edit the photoshoot. It is a photo editing suite which allows you to create documents such as the advert and digiPak, we could change the colours using the levels and curves add text and improve image quality all through this programme. It came in use because as it was a dim day when we conducted our shoot; photoshop allowed us to edit it a brighten it up.

Final cut pro is the professional editing software that we used to collate are shots together and create the final piece. It allowed us to pick out the areas we wanted to use using capture, it also allowed us to add the final track, add transitions and piece together the shots to the second to get a smooth running film. The particular image shown above is an example image however it shows you the timeline we would of used to put together the shots, it shows you the capture log and the viewing panel so you can watch what you've done so you can make any adjustments if necessary. After a few practices the software did get easier to use however it ended up taking a lot of time because of all the editing you have to put in and the practice that was needed.

I believe that all these new technologies have helped me create a better project. Through the internet we have been able to contact people and share our video on a larger scale than if we were walking round after people. Also the new technology in the cameras gave us crisp, sharp images which is essential in capturing the attention in the audience.

Audience Feedback 2

1. In a short paragraph tell us what you think of our products?

- The video and products are good especially your video however your CD case is to basic and is boring; if you are going to use black and white maybe you need something else like more detail to catch the audiences eye. I like your poster and the way the images in both products match. The only thing i would change in the video is the lip sync and zoom it looks abit messy.

- For a first attempt your video is well done however there are some improvements to make for example the lip syncing is either in time or completely out and the consistency isn't there. Similarly to your lighting its good and then then end scene is too over exposed. I think your location is good and actors play the roles well. You advert is good and shows your product well although your Digipak doesn't quite live up to the same standards and lets the rest down.

2. Do you like the text font we used?

- Yes the font was cool and quirky. It was also different and really matched the chosen genre.

- I like the font you used as its different and therefor eye catching. It works well against both the white and imaged background and matches the style of genre.

3. Do you feel the actors were appropriate?

- The actors were really good and showed a good connection and chemistry. They acted well however the lip syncing was a little out of time.

- Your casting for your products was good and the couple had a great connection and showed a good on screen relationship. They worked well together and looked pleasing on screen.

4. Did you think the type of film we shot matched the music?

-  Yes everything worked well together, and really complemented the music.

- I do, the music went well with the location, actors, story line etc.

Final Advert

This is my final advertising piece. I have created it based on that we saw in various music magazines. I created this piece in photoshop CS5 using a number of layers; I edited the image first to get the best possible feel. I changed the levels and curves to gain the best possible image quality, so to gain the interest of the preferred Audience.
The same Actors, setting, clothing all the mise-en-scene throughout so the audience can relate the three products together. The text font has been kept the same and also helps links the three products.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

When reading through the audience feedback that i gained i found out many useful ideas and constructive criticism. To gain this information i posted my video to my Facebook page; A social networking sight which allowed my friends to tell me what they thought. I had a few comments which told me that the lip syncing could be improved and is slightly out of time in comparison to the backing track. After reading through the comments and re-watching the final video for myself i did notice that it could have been altered, when i re-added the track to the timeline on Final cut pro, i hadn't changed it back far enough to match up with my original sound recording.
I also had feedback about the camera work, When filming our film in Solihull we did use the zoom capabilities on the camera, when we got the footage onto the computer we noticed that it was jolting quite abit however with the time we had left it wasn't possible for us to re-shoot the footage, we tried to eliminate it as much as we could be cropping the shot in the software; I was disappointed in the way this has turned out on the final video however i believe that the good shots and framing we did have improved the video quality despite the cons.
When looking through the feedback i got i believe that it would of been more efficient if we had gained more from a wider audience, maybe sat down with a focus group with some set questions to gain more of an insight into what they thought about it too  more detail.

Audience feedback

"Nice filming, some lovely                    scenes, a few lip synching issues but understandable given the circumstances, great effort for a first time at making a music video"- Gina Hughes (44)

"I like this but the lips singing is slightly out :)" - Toby Hughes (14)

"i agree with the lip synching comments and also in some places its a bit jumpy but thats not a major problem, and also at the bit where they were both standing on the fence, you could of had them either side of the fence singing then after they would walk off in opposite driections, visually would have had a good impact"- Ian Briggs (21)

"honestly... lip sync for the guy
is off but its good otherwise
actually lip sync is a bit off for some parts" - Pawan Arri (17)

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When creating our three products we took into consideration a way in which we could advertise our product effectively. A way in which media producers do this is through cross media advertising; We have kept our mise-en-scene the same throughout. Both the filming and photo shoot was taken in the same park in Solihull on similar days to get the effect we were after.

In this particular location we filmed the final scenes in which the two actors were singing together, it is also the same bench in the location that the advertisement image was taken just from a different angle as shown below.

Similarly as you can see in the images the actors have worn the same clothes and are in fact the same actors which is important as the song is a duet between Ellie Goulding and Erik Hassle it relates to the song.
I think its important to keep a theme and ideas through out the three products as it gives the audience something to relate to and gives them an idea into what they can expect.
Our products have been closely linked between each other effectively and tells the audience about the type of music video it is and also gives a vague idea about the story line.
